The Our Lady pilgrimage church towers on the way to the excellent wine provider vineyards of Turbék. It was built as a thanksgiving of a miracle healing, after the Turks left the country. At first it was made of wood, then -after the second half of the 18th century- from stone. On its main altar Our Lady of Passau’s picture can be seen. According to the popular belief this was the place where Sultan Suleiman’s heart and other organs were buried and later an octagonal tomb was raised with a gold plated cupola. After the occupation it was demolished and only a plaque on the wall of the church reminds us that it was there. It was placed in 1913. The church was the common place of the pilgrimage for the Hungarian, German and Croatian Catholics until the middle of the 20th century. On prominent Mary Holidays it is still filled with believers.
